Sick Over Obamacare?

Lamb Will Provide Relief

In the front Congressman James McGovern’s Attleboro office, Marty Lamb, Republican candidate for Congress in Massachusetts Third District, expressed his opposition to Obamacare (The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) and announced his ideas for making health insurance more accessible and affordable.

"Repeal. Repeal. Repeal Obamacare. We don’t want a socialized system of health care that will lower the quality of care, jeopardize research, and lead to rationing,” said Lamb. “A government takeover of health care is not the answer. We should strive for a system that is not centralized in Washington, but rather a plan that keeps health care decisions in the hands of doctors and patients."
“As a small business owner, I know that the threat of Obamacare with all of its new regulations and mandates has many businesses holding back from expanding and adding new employees. Here in Massachusetts we have seen our health insurance rates skyrocket due to the state mandate. Congress must take a different approach to resolving the rising costs of health care,” said Lamb. "My proposals will not only ensure that the quality of care does not decline, but it will also help revive our economy."

Lamb believes that common sense and free market ideas can make health care more affordable and accessible. Lamb suggests the following possible solutions:

Institute a tax reduction for individuals who buy health insurance — Individuals should have the same tax treatment as employers and workers who receive coverage via their employer. By creating a tax reduction, more people will be encouraged to buy health insurance.

Pass Associated Health Plans — For years the small business community has advocated for AHPs. Unfortunately, their requests have been ignored by Congress. AHPs allow small and micro-businesses to band together to purchase health insurance allowing them to negotiate better pricing.

Promote health savings accounts —These accounts encourage saving for future health care needs. It makes the consumers more responsible for their own health care choices. Individuals can buy high-deductible insurance plans and save the rest in a tax free account set aside for health care.

Cover pre-existing conditions — Denying coverage due to pre-existing conditions, is wrong. When Obamacare is repealed, Lamb will support legislation to allow individuals to switch insurance coverage without risk of pre-existing condition exclusion.

Pass tort reform — The New England Journal of Medicine estimates that 40% of medical liability lawsuits are brought without merit – get rich quick schemes. Due to the high cost of medical liability insurance, it is reported that 93% of doctors are practicing defensive medicine which is significantly adding to health care costs. The best estimate is $200 billion. The first step is to cap non-economic damages and to institute a statute of limitations of one year for adults from date of injury.

Remove barriers prohibiting people from being able to purchase health care across state lines — Competition is a good thing. Allowing people to purchase insurance from companies beyond their home state will create competition on rates along with giving them more choice. Lamb is passing out a Congressional Barf bag to make his point about Obamacare, excessive government spending and this deep recession.

"Obamacare is extremely unpopular. People believe it is the wrong answer for solving our health care problems. In a humorous way my barf bags are making the point that we want different solutions not more big government," said Lamb. "If Obamacare was the correct solution, then Congressman McGovern would not be afraid to hold a town meeting."
"Disappointingly McGovernment voted for the President’s big government solution instead of fighting for common sense reforms. It is no surprise because he is in the back pocket of the trial attorneys," said Lamb.

As a good friend to the trial lawyers, McGovern voted against the initiatives such as the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act of 2005. Moreover, just during this election cycle McGovern has received $50,000 from lawyers and law firm related PACs. The legal industry is the incumbent’s overall largest contributor.

REPEAL OBAMACARE

Repeal, repeal, repeal Obamacare. The President's new national healthcare mandate does nothing to address the issue of rising healthcare costs. Marty Lamb has two guiding principles when it comes to health care - Make it affordable and accessible. He supports giving people more power over their healthcare through employer an self-funded tax-free medical savings accounts, breaking apart insurance monopoly pricing by permitting people to purchase medical insurance across state lines and tort reform.

Marty was asked to give a rebuttal to Congressman Jim McGovern's explanation for voting for the healthcare bill.

Lamb Concerned For Our Seniors

Lamb Will Provide Relief

9.28.10 Holliston, MA ... Today, Marty Lamb, Republican candidate for Congress in Massachusetts Third District, expressed his concerned for our area seniors with the announcement from Harvard Pilgrim that they are cancelling their Medicare Advantage plan.

This cancellation will force 22,000 senior citizens in the Northeast to find alternative supplemental coverage. According to today's Boston Globe article the change is "prompted by a freeze in federal reimbursement."

The company's Vice President stated the following,

"We became concerned by the long-term viability of Medicare Advantage programs in general. We know that cuts in Medicare are being used to fund national health care reform. And we also had concerns about our ability to build a network of health care providers that would meet the needs of our seniors."
"Is this the result that Congressman McGovern was looking for when he voted for Obamacare?" asked Lamb. "Medicare is getting weaker not stronger despite the administration's Andy Griffith campaign ads. When the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act passed we warned about these pending problems. Unfortunately they are now becoming a reality for 22,000 seniors in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine."

The news on Obamacare is getting worse. Not only have the estimates grown to costing us over $1 trillion, but now President Obama has appointed Dr. Donald Berwick as the administrator for Medicare and Medicaid. This recess appointment was sworn in without a single Senate hearing.

Berwick is a strong supporter of socialized medicine. When asked about the failing British government health care system he state the following, "I am romantic about the National Health Service; I love it." Dr. Berwick also made this statement regarding rationing of health care -- "The decision is not whether we will ration care. The decision is whether we will ration with our eyes open." So how do we stop the Obama-Berwick plan to socialize medicine?

By electing 218 Republicans to Congress, we can repeal Obamacare. Reaching that magic number to dethrone Speaker Nancy Pelosi includes defeating Congressman Jim McGovern. Will you help me win this crucial race? As you know McGovern voted to pass Obamacare and helped manage the House floor to assist in its passage. His record on taxes and spending is more liberal than Pelosi and he supported funding ACORN even after they were exposed. Let's win this fight by electing 218 Republicans to Congress!
