Lamb to McGovern: Return The Money
It is a conflict of interest
Incumbent Skips Meeting with Business Leaders for Fundraiser
October 21, 2010 - Holliston, MA ...Today Marty Lamb, Republican candidate for Congress in Massachusetts Third District, challenged Congressman James McGovern to return the thousands of dollars he has received from people who got federal grants and earmarks. Lamb has sent a letter to McGovern explaining how it is a conflict of interest. Lamb is disappointed that the incumbent skipped a meeting of Medway Business Leaders for a fundraiser.
"Congressman McGovern, it is not garbage. It is our tax dollars that are being used to indirectly benefit your war chest," said Lamb. "I know that the Congressman has been in DC for a long time and it clouds his judgment, but that does not change the fact it is a conflict of interest. I challenge you to return the money."
During a debate on WTAG on Tuesday McGovern called the conflict of interest "garbage."
Lamb believes that refunding these contributions will prove that there was no quid pro quo and that Congressman McGovern stands by his statements in support of campaign finance reform.
"I doubt he will return the funds considering the fact that last month he attacked my plan for reforming earmarks. He does not want to show the connection between earmarks and campaign contributions. Moreover, he proved this morning what is more important to him. He went to a fundraiser instead of talking to business leaders who are not donating. It is always about what is in his best interest," said Lamb. "We have had enough of politics as usual."
"Congressman McGovern, are you standing by your rhetoric or not?" asked Lamb.
Lamb finds it troubling that McGovern is using campaign donors who have received federal funding for his campaign ads. One of them feature highlights Don Brown, CEO of Arteriocycte who has donated $2800 to McGovern's campaign while the CFO, John Mitchell, has donated $500.
From NewsRX
Arteriocyte, a clinical stage biotechnology a> company announced the receipt of a fast track Phase I/II Small Business Innovation Research Grant Award (R44HL092706-01) from National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The grant award, is the first installment of the combined $2.5 million grant from the NIH to clinically evaluate the therapeutic feasibility of treating Critical Limb Ischemia with the company's expanded human umbilical cord blood derived stem cell therapy (ALO212) using Arteriocyte's proprietary NANEX cell expansion technology.
Another video on YouTube features Roy McDowell of Legacy Farms. The Legacy Farms project was developed by Boulder Capital. According to OpenSecrets.org, Boulder officials are McGovern's top individual contributors totaling $18,000. McDowell states in the video that McGovern helped get federal money for roads.
Lamb believes that McGovern's rating from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce of 35% which means he votes against small business issues 65% of the time is far more reflective of the incumbent's true record. The Retail Federation rates McGovern as 40%.
Here are a few of McGovern's ratings:
Association |
Year |
Rating |
|---|---|---|
Chamber of Commerce |
Lifetime Rating | 35% |

2008 | 20% |

"I am going to fight for the small businesses owners who cannot afford to contribute. I want government off their backs and out of their wallets," said Lamb.
