Lamb Announces Reforms to Clean Up D.C.

Just Lamb, No Pork

Marty Lamb, Republican candidate for Congress in Massachusetts Third District, announced a series of reforms to clean up Washington politics.

"It is time to restore the public’s faith in our system of government and it starts with cleaning up Beltway politics. I will work to implement reforms that restore integrity, " said Lamb.

Lamb’s reforms include the following:

End Earmark Abuse by prohibiting members from anonymously introducing earmarks and stop the practice of inserting earmarks while legislation is in conference committee.
Create transparency in lobbying efforts by requiring lobbying firms to disclose their campaign contributions to Congressional members and candidates.
End quasi-government paid lobbying. According to the Wall Street Journal between 2001 and 2006, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac spent $123 million to lobby Congress.
Eliminate Congressional perks by requiring members to join the same pension system as all other federal employees.
No hiring of immediate family members for staff positions.
Require recipients of earmark funding to disclose money spent on lobbying efforts and campaign contributions they made.
Post all legislation for 72 hours before a vote so public has time to comment. Even more important, Congressional members should read the bills before voting.
"As a business owner, I never sign a contract without reading it first. Hence, when Congress is dealing with legislation costing millions, billions and trillions, they need to read it," said Lamb.

Lamb believes that the passage of Obamacare this year is a prime example of a bill that should have been read. Speaker Pelosi urged passage to see what was in the legislation.

"Only a rare few members read the 1100 page bill that overhauls our health care system. Taking over 16% of our nation’s economy should have been better scrutinized and the first step is to requiring reading of the bill, " said Lamb. "As we all well know the collapse of Fannie and Freddie was a major contributing factor to our economic downturn. Maybe if so much money had not been spent on protecting the status quo for the taxpayer backed corporation, we might have been able to prevent some of the disaster," said Lamb.
